My (3-Step) Process To Choose A Right Career Option
Choosing the right career can be a headache but choosing a career that you’ll love throughout your life is worse…especially when there are thousands of options available and…
…when everyone else out there recommends something different each time you ask.
So, in this section, I’ll guide you through step by step on how I deal with this type of situation in my life.
Let’s face it.
Step #1: Do A Market Research
It does not make so much difference whether you’re confused or you know what to do next.
Market research is a must!
At the time when I was on the stage where I had completed my 10+2, I was clueless regarding choosing my career.
So, I decided to grab opinions from my friends, family, relatives & some other known people.
My situation got even worse and I got more confused.
Finally, I decided to leave everything behind and begin with market research to find out what’s working right now or maybe work in future.
I watched videos on Youtube, searched for “upcoming trends & most valuable skills required in the market” on Google.
Hopefully, I found something that makes my day.
It was a paragraph related to “Digital Marketing growth in upcoming years” on a particular blog.
The bottom line?
Start with market research if you don’t know where to go.
Step #2: Find Out Recruiter’s Intent
Now, I was having a good career option & that is “becoming a pro Digital Marketer”.
But still, something was MISSING!
I got confused for one more time, here are some questions that were rolling in my mind at that time.
- From where do I start working on my newly chosen career option?
- Should I enrol for a Digital Marketing course before graduation?
- Or, should I first complete my graduation & then start honing my Digital Marketing skills?
How do I escape from this confusing scenario?
And, I found one thing common.
Almost 75% of recruiters were looking for a Digital Marketer who is either graduate or holds a bachelor’s degree.
Step #3: Plan Your Journey
Fortunately, I was from a commerce background so “Digital Marketing” was a perfect fit for me.
Just one thing was remaining & that is making a plan for my overall journey just like we plan everything before we go on a trip or picnic.
I begin by finding a good bachelor’s degree that should be related to Marketing.
The best part?
I got successful in finding one.
So, after some more research, I decided to do BMS (Bachelors of Management Studies) in Marketing to complete my graduation ASAP.
And, finally when I completed my graduation as per my plan…I enrolled for a good basic Digital Marketing course to get an overview of all concepts.
Digital Marketing was a broad career option for me because it includes so many things like Social Media Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Search Engine Marketing, Email Marketing etc.
But, because I became aware of every concept in Digital Marketing I quickly chose the one in which I was genuinely interested i.e Search Engine Optimization.
Today, I have more than 3 years of experience in SEO and I’m still loving it like day 1. 🙂
